in 2009 when we received an invitation from friends in the diving business.<\/p>\n<p>We had been to the Philippines many times and had dived just about all the notable sites, but Camiguin was not yet on our &#8220;radar&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>With some brief research, we found out that Camiguin is the island of lanzones, a delicious sweet tropical fruit, and is far from mass tourism. Untouched reefs are visited by only a few divers every year. This information quickly made us curious: So let&#8217;s go to Camiguin&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Once we arrived on the island, we really decelerated. The 64 km long road around Camiguin has very little traffic and is almost exclusively used by scooters. Children stand smiling and waving at the roadside and international tourism had not yet arrived on the island, although Camiguin is one of the most popular holiday destinations among Filipinos. The population consists of 97% very devout Christians, which sets the second smallest province of the Philippines apart from the rest of the Mindanao region. In addition, it has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire country.<\/p>\n<p>After a short time, we realised that Southern Visayas is a great place to spend a holiday and we enthusiastically explored the beauty and diversity of &#8220;Camigen&#8221; (that&#8217;s how it&#8217;s pronounced).<\/p>\n<p>By the time we left, we were sure:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Camiguin, we &#8220;come again&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since then, the island has been considered an insider tip among the Coraya team and many of us have &#8220;fallen in love&#8221; with it over the last 10 years. tropical volcanic island with a lot of unspoilt charm and several attractions.<\/p>\n<p>Off the coast of the Balai sa Baibai and Coraya Divers resort there is a large and snow-white sandbank that is constantly changing with the tides called &#8220;White Island&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight is &#8220;Mantigue&#8221;, a small island that is very reminiscent of the Maldives and has a beautiful reef for diving and snorkelling. Both White Island and Mantigue are national parks where rangers make sure that the regulations for preserving the original beauty are observed.<\/p>\n<p>Mantigue is one of the top dive sites: Turtles and schools of fish can always be found, as well as everything else you would expect from a tropical reef. Just like the other 15 or more dive sites that we visit by boat or minibus, our divers are usually alone in the water and do not have to share the spot with other boats.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cArdent Hotsprings\u201d, the &#8220;Bura Soda Water&#8221; and &#8220;Cold Springs&#8221;, the &#8220;Tangub Hot Springs&#8221; and some breathtaking waterfalls offer numerous opportunities to cool down or warm up in the water as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Countless nature hiking trails (up to climbing the Hibok-Hibok volcano or exploring the &#8220;Secret Paradise&#8221;) offer active people an attractive adventure playground.<\/p>\n<p>Camiguin can also be explored by scooter for experienced two-wheelers. On request, the reception of the Balai sa Baibai resort can also provide a driver with a car, tuk tuk or multicab.<\/p>\n<p>On a round trip around the island, there are many sights to visit, such as the Sunken Cemetary, the Mangrove Walk, or the Hibok-Hibok Observatory. No matter where you go, you will meet a friendly smile from the locals.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the island offers a variety of options that is second to none.
